Dated: 03-12-2015
It is said that sport teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules and it also teaches you how it feels to win and lose. Simply put, it teaches you how to live life!
Amidst deafening cheers and war cries, Presidium, Ashok Vihar witnessed its Annual Sports Day 2015-16 on December 3, 2015 in the school premises. This spectacular event was graced by eminent guests which included the Chairperson of Mother’s Pride and Presidium, Mrs. Sudha Gupta; the Guest of Honor Mrs. Asha Aggarwal, a renowned athlete and an Arjuna award recipient, Mr. Joseph Kuak who represented India in Swimming and Water Polo from 1977 to 1984 and a bronze medallist in Water Polo at the IXth ASIAN GAMES that were held in Delhi in 1982; and Shri Balwant Singh, best coach award recipient from DOE and President of Indian Swimming Team. The extravaganza was embellished by the warm presence of Mr. SP Aggarwal, Chairman Advisory Board Presidium group of schools; Ms Nidhi Sirohi, Director, Education; Ms. Meena Joshi, Sports Head Presidium Schools; Mrs. Kavita Nath, Vice Principal, Academics; Mrs. Amita Bhatia, Vice Principal, Operations and Mrs. Vidhi Singh, Head, Starmakers.
The exposition of camaraderie and sportsmanship spirit was initiated by a melodious welcome song followed by release of balloons and a few inspiring words by the Chairperson who reiterated upon the importance of Sports in a student’s life and shared her desire of nurturing future sport stars. The air seemed charged with anticipation and excitement as Mrs. Asha Aggarwal declared the Sports Meet open and shared her journey from being just a simple and mediocre girl to becoming an international athlete of great repute. She encouraged the children to set goals, stay focused and silence those who despise you with your extraordinary feat!
The highlight of the gala show was the march-past in its vibrant hues, lead by Sports captain Nakul Juneja who saluted the Guest of Honor Mrs. Asha Aggarwal. As the Club Mentors lead their clubs proudly past the dais, the achievements of their respective clubs could be heard reverberating in the grounds as our anchors Akshita Taneja and Kanishk Gupta lauded them for their victories in various events. As the clubs paraded past the guests, displaying the best of their coordination and discipline they were adjudged for their abilities by an esteemed panel of judges which included Mrs. Kavita Nath, Mrs. Vidhi Singh and Mr. Shyam Tripathi.
The event was marked by a string of performances by our champs, who were brimming with enthusiasm and sporting excellence. They also presented stunning drills and well synchronized dance performances that left the spectators filling the air with their thunderous applause. A plethora of athletic events were conducted during the day, wherein the young athletes marvelled one and all with their breath taking speed, focus and concentration.
Presidium never misses a chance to acknowledge people for their wonderful contributions and achievements and in the words of our mentor Chairperson Mrs. Sudha Gupta, “Acknowledgement creates possibility”. Putting these thoughts into action Presidium Annual Sports Day not only facilitated its outstanding National players but also provided an opportunity to the proud parents to be a part of the facilitations because parents are the partners in a child’s success. The Victory Ceremony was a testimony to grit and determination…to tears and smiles as the students received their medals and trophies. While the Elites were declared overall winners, the Legends created history by walking away with the first ever Best March past trophy!
Indeed, champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years that they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their steely will and character. This eventful day culminated with a vote of thanks for the sheer hard work and unwavering support for all those who contributed to make it a grand success, whose memories shall remain etched in our hearts for the years to come.
The Sports Day celebrations at Presidium hope to have sent a strong message that winning isn't the score on the board; its seeing something through the end and then congratulating your opponent!
